Our regular round-up for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do and who should not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals and more – but here is our pick of the bunch:

Friday

10am – 9pm: Budapest Spring Fair at Vörösmarty tér

This is the last weekend to enjoy the Budapest Spring Fair as it closes on Sunday. Central Vörösmarty tér is currently crammed with stands and stalls offering hundreds of handcrafted Hungarian products and local dishes, while cultural and artisanal events, folk music and folk-dance shows also entertain crowds. More details

11am - : Budapest Art Week at various venues

Last call! The Budapest Art Week ends on Sunday, but until then you can enjoy endless cultural events in Budapest. At this festival of fine arts a special wristband grants access to many of the city’s museums and art galleries, featuring almost 100 exhibitions and cool cultural events. Meet the artists, join gallery tours and see newly installed displays over this enlightening series. More details

Noon - 7pm: International Book Festival at Millenáris Park

This free Budapest festival and intellectual forum – taking place April 19th-22nd – annually celebrates literature by gathering authors from all around the world and book lovers to Buda’s Millenáris Park. Bestsellers and recently published editions, round-table discussions, concerts, book-signing sessions and other cultural events accompany the festival. This year, prominent German writer Daniel Kehlmann appears as guest of honour. More details

Noon - 11pm: Corvin Beer Festival at Corvin sétány

More than 100 kinds of draught and bottled beers from the UK, the Czech Republic, Germany, Spain and the USA will fill the Corvin sétány over the weekend. Taste the best porters, stouts, lagers, IPAs, EPAs and APAs and try fine bites at this fun festival.

5pm – 9pm: Akvárium Spring Terrace on Erzsébet tér

A warm spring evening, a glass of wine in hand, a group of friends or your special someone and an acoustic alfresco gig in the heart of Budapest. Does it get any better? Akvárium Klub on Erzsébet tér presents a special free event series for the month of April – between 1st and 22nd – and shakes up spring evenings with acoustic shows by popular Hungarian musicians and up-and-coming artists held on the steps of the club.

Saturday

8am – 2pm: Czakó Piacz at Czakó Kert

farmers’ market full of friendly vendors awaits visitors in the lovely garden of an old Hungarian peasant house, bringing the atmosphere of the countryside to Budapest. Stalls offer organic products, vegetables, eggs, mouthwatering meats, handcrafted cheeses, wild mushrooms and countless unique specialties that are not available elsewhere in the capital. The chef at Czakó Kert prepares breakfast and lunchfrom the delicacies available here while the market is open.

1pm - 9pm: Spring Tribal Market at Dürer Kert

Just before Earth Day, Dürer Kert hosts an environment-friendly market aiming to gather people who care about recycling and the well-being of the Earth. You can browse all kinds of designer clothes, jewellery and artisanal items, while ambient and downtempo grooves play in the background. Yoga classes entertain during the day and a party entices everyone on the dance floor after the sun goes down.

6pm - 8:15pm: Jaws at the Art+ Cinema

Duuun dun duuun dun duuun dun dun dun… Jaws is a true classic of American cinema. When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn overrules him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper and grizzled ship captain Quint offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature. Original audio, Hungarian subtitles. 

8pm - 7:30am: Hyperspace Electronic Festival at Hungexpo

World-class DJs spin dance tunes and revellers let loose on the dance floor at this surreal electronica extravaganza taking place on the Hungexpo premises on Saturday. Headliners include Dave Clarke, Oscar Mulero, Julian Jeweil, Klaudia Gawlas, Enrico Sangiuliano, Hot X and many other prominent local and international music masters. More details

11pm – 5am: Caliente – Reggaeton + Latinpop Night at Volt Lokál

Machos and mamacitas will be shaking it on the dance floor to the hottest Latino tunes on Saturday night at Volt Lokál, where the best songs of Shakira, Ricky Martin, J. Lo and others fill the sensual atmosphere.

Sunday

11am - 7pm: WAMP Design Fair on Erzsébet tér

WAMP is a regularcommunity event and design fair, a meeting spot for creative and trendsetting young talents. This year the first outdoor fair takes place on Earth Day on Sunday. For this event, local designers showcase their limited-edition collections offering clothes, jewellery, bags and other accessories.

Noon - 10pm: 2018 Ice Hockey World Championship Division 1 - Group A at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna

The 2018 Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A takes place in Budapest between April 22nd and 28th at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna. Hungary, Britain, Italy, Poland, Slovenia and Kazakhstan play in the tournament and the top two teams qualify for the 2019 Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia.

2pm - 6pm: I Bike Budapest at Tabán

On April 22nd, a huge group of cyclists takes to the streets on two wheels, on a quest to promote two-wheeled travel in the city. Several roads of Hungary’s capital will be cleared of cars for this special event, making the most spectacular sights of the city more accessible by bike. This immensely popular mass-cycling extravaganza began in 2004, and by 2013, more than 100,000 people has shown up to draw silent attention to the continuing need for creating better bike routes around town. Hop on your bike and come for a ride. More details
