When it comes to Hungarian street food, the area around Arany János metro station is the place to go. Retró Lángos offers the best lángos in town, from basic sour cream-cheese versions to more daring toppings, while at Kolbice you can buy handheld sausage-based treats. The new kid on the block here is Pöriző, where the traditional dish 0f pörkölt comes in a truly new form: filled into savory pancakes.

Pörkölt is generally based on chicken or beef with red wine, and then is slowly cooked into a stew with fresh vegetables. At Pöriző, however, instead of garnished with nokedli (Hungarian dumplings), these classic stews come wrapped in the side dish, in this case is a pancake. Chicken stew is paired with a nokedli-based pancake, beef and red wine stew is embraced in egg barley-based pancake, while the Brasov-style roast is wrapped in one that is potato-based.

No need to worry if you feel you need something on the side, as cucumbers or mixed pickles hide perfectly inside the wrap, creating a harmony of flavors. The result is a tasty handheld treat that doesn’t drip everywhere, so you can even walk to the Danube shore with it. Surprisingly, it evokes the taste of pörkölt that you would have at a Hungarian family dinner, as the recipe is classic, made without any twists. The prices range between 1,190 and 1,390 HUF.
