Starting today, Thursday November 30th, you can take a sparkling ride through the Hungarian capital – and all for the price of a regular transport ticket of 350 forints. Until the first week of January, during this merriest of seasons, a special Christmastime carriage enhances the cityscape as it glides along the tramlines of Budapest. Anyone holding a regular public-transport ticket or pass can hop aboard this distinct Yuletide vehicle festooned with thousands of snow-white and blue-colored LED lights. The glittering streetcar serves several lines in both Buda and Pest, including the Danube-hugging number 2, frequently cited as the world’s most panoramic tram journey.

Get your camera ready while you are out and about in Hungary’s capital. Beginning on November 30th, a glowing streetcar will be zipping along Budapest’s tramlines, adding to the Christmas spectacle. Adorned with 40,000 bright LED lights, this Ganz UV-type vintage model from the 1960s will serve a dozen Budapest routes, including scenic tram 2 running along Pest’s Danube bank and tram 41 that follows the river on the opposite Buda side.

Ornate on the outside, this illuminated vehicle is also decorated within, understated Christmas ornaments bringing a little festive feeling on board. Regular public-transport tickets and passes are valid. The first Christmas car departed from the Jászai Mari tér terminal of tram 2 at 4pm today. The following lines then run until January 7th, between 5pm and 9pm:
