Documenting Budapest scenes for the past eight years, local photographer Márk Mervai often presents panoramic city shots on his Facebook page. The idea of his recent photo project was born after Mervai misread “Game of Thrones” as “Game of Tones” while listening to the main theme song of the fantasy series. A few days later, the photographer found himself prowling the streets of Budapest with his camera and chasing the perfect autumn light.
Besides capturing many of the city’s major landmarks from new angles, with this new photo project the artist wants to highlight how Budapest’s hidden sights appear during the autumn season, including the Children’s Railway that chugs along the ridge of the Buda Hills. “There are so many tiny details in Budapest that we don’t recognize while passing by them and these little features make our city so beautiful,” says the photographer.
Mervai’s favorite image of all is the picture he snapped from Gellért Hill with Liberty Bridge bathed in early morning hues at sunrise. His series also includes photos of Chain Bridge taken at the crack of dawn, forested Gellért Hill with multicolored trees, and Buda Castle soaring gracefully above the misty town.
