Many autumn events focus on modern design in the Magyar metropolis – such as the OFF-Biennále and Budapest Design Week – but let’s travel back in time to admire the retro styles of Budapest’s communist-era lounge scene. Originally published on a duo of Hungarian photo-archive pages, these time-transcending pictures evoke what cutting-edge fashion was like in Budapest cafés and bars in the ’70s – and though some of these locales no longer exist, others are still open. Some of these photos may seem funny now, but just think – in a few decades, how will our contemporary style scene seem?
