There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

4pm - 10pm: Fröccs & Lángos Festival at Kincsem Park

Enjoy hedonistic Hungarian feasts during August 4-6 at the second Fröccs and Lángos Festival, which will surely not let leave you unsatisfied. Expect plenty of succulent lángos – a classic Hungarian treat of deep-fried dough with a crispy exterior and soft middle, topped with various goods like garlic butter, sour cream, and shredded cheese – and frosty fröccs, as well as plenty of exciting programs like horse and greyhound races, kid’s programs, a fair, and a mini exhibition, all awaiting at Kincsem Park. 7:30pm - 10pm: Ryley Walker Band /US/, Zanzinger /HU/ at A38

On Friday night, Ryley Walker, the reincarnation of a true American guitarist, and his band bring their uniquely passionate and poetic world to the A38 Ship, evoking the free-jazz scene and vibrant psychedelia of Chicago in the ’90s. Their perfect partner in crime will be a talented local singer and songwriter, Zanzinger, who steps onstage in a trio with a double bass player and a drummer. More details

8pm - 11pm: Saloon by Cirque Eliozé at the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage

Positioned at the heart of the renewal of circus arts, Cirque Éloize has been creating moving performances filled with magic since 1993. On Friday and Saturday they take their breathtaking blend of circus arts, theater, and dance to Budapest, inviting everyone for 85 minutes of nonstop live folk music combined with strength, agility, and original choreography. Don’t miss this night when the Wild West comes alive, all staged in the outdoor amphitheater under the Margaret Island Water Tower.

9pm - 3am: Street Groove Summit #2 at Impostor

On Friday night, Impostor’s cool inner courtyard fills up with groups of friends enjoying an intoxicating ambience reminiscent of the atmosphere of Asia, as well as househits mixed by the night's special guests, Klayman and LAU, and the residents, DJ Reload and Akos V.

11pm - 5am: Women on Women – Gaga VS Britney B**ch at Toldi

Toldi hosts one of the hottest nights of August on Friday, inviting partygoers to a true pop madness as two of the biggest divas of the genre, Britney B**ch and Lady “the fame monster” Gaga face off as DJ Tonyó and DJ Mórocz spin discs behind the turntable. 9am - 12am: Szabihíd By Valyo Act 3 at Liberty Bridge 

One of Budapest’s most picturesque spans, the Liberty Bridge, will be closed to traffic again during Saturday and Sunday, encouraging everyone to occupy this super-central space full of all kinds of cool programs. Acoustic concerts, picnics, yoga sessions, and several other fun activities will be held here over the weekend, so feel free to gather your friends and flock to the bridge for a fun-filled weekend, joining a freshly created community. More details

2pm - 11pm: All Day I Dream x Cinematiné #011 at RIO Budapest

As the premier pioneer of daytime parties in Budapest, Cinematiné throws another alfresco gig on Saturday at RIO. Lee Burridge, Lost Desert, and Hoj spin discs at the aréna, while in the Skybar, James Cole, the Collective Machine, Andras Garay, Jaffa Surfa, and Rizkid & Kormix play tracks behind the turntable.

6pm - 1am: Night of the Elizabeth Lookout Tower at János Hill

August is the month of shooting stars, and on Saturday nights the Elizabeth Lookout Tower – found at the highest point of Budapest – operates with longer opening hours, awaiting guests late into the night with illuminated views, meteor showers, and atmospheric music, providing a breathtaking panorama over Budapest.

7pm - 1am: NN Night Run in Budapest

After the sun goes down on Saturday night, a group of eager joggers flock to the streets of Budapest for a night run, passing by major landmarks like the Funicular, the Várkert Bazaar, and the Parliament. As an extra test of strength, the run also heads uphill to the Buda Castle, providing a challenging and at the same time charming adventure for lovers of running. You can run 7 km, 12 km, a half marathon, or a marathon on Saturday night, while the city sparkles bright under the starry sky. More details

10pm - 5am: Fedde Le Grand – RIO Birthday Bash at RIO

Dutch house DJ and producer Fedde Le Grand is best known for his chart-topping 2006 song “Put Your Hands Up 4 Detroit” and for his remixes of popular artists such as Coldplay, Michael Jackson, Shakira, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Timeflies, Naughty Boy, and Martin Solveig. On Saturday he steps on stage at RIO Budapest, at the birthday bash of this open-air hangout. More details

11am - 7pm: WAMP Design Fair at Erzsébet Square

WAMP – a beloved design fair in Budapest – takes place again in August, presenting the latest products of Hungarian designers at Erzsébet Square in the sweet summertime sunshine. After browsing through the countless accessories, clothing, and stunning small-scale pieces, marketgoers can cool down by dipping their feet in the cold pool found in the middle of the square. More details

6:30pm - 11:59pm: Budapest Rooftop Cinema presents: Pretty Woman at Corvin Club

Cuddle up under the starry skies on Sunday night and watch as Vivian and Edward fall hard for each other in this all-time classic, Pretty Woman, while having Budapest at your feet. Budapest Rooftop Cinema screens the film with original English audio and Hungarian subtitles on the rooftop of Corvin Club.

7pm - 10pm: Sisha Nights at KIOSK

On Sunday nights, KIOSK gets out the water pipes so that everyone can close the week in a relaxed and atmospheric way. 8pm - 11pm: Ripoff 60+2 at Kobuci Kert

As an accomplished blues-guitar player and a prolific singer and songwriter, Austria-based Ripoff Raskolnikov is one of the most idiosyncratic figures on the European blues scene. On Sunday he plays live to entertain crowds at Kobuci Kert. More details (in Hungarian)
