Every year, Vörösmarty Square turns into a magical winter wonderland for the time of Budapest’s biggest Advent and Christmas Fair, offering a wide range of wintery treats, as well as carefully selected high-quality locally made gifts. This year, in addition to all-time favorites such as chimney cake, mulled wine, hot chocolate, strudels, and gingerbread, we can also find vibrantly glazed ceramics, special metalworks, colorful baubles, and various Hungarian handicrafts here. The 1,200-square-meter market awaits visitors with nearly 160 family-friendly programs this year, ranging from spirited concerts to puppet shows to basket- and candle-making workshops. As a novelty this year, a wooden installation portraying a Christmas tree will be the centerpiece of the square, on which hanging luminous numbers will help guests count down to Christmas. This year at the Advent and Christmas Fair, jolly vendors, mouthwatering meals, and a festive love-fueled atmosphere would surely get even Scrooge himself into the holiday spirit.
