Many of Budapest’s star chefs and renowned epicures add unique flavor to the fine food of a District VII hotspot eatery with the Macesz Gastro Tour. Culinary bloggers and winemakers are also participating in this series of events that welcomes the public, resulting in uncommon cooking, kitchen battles, unforgettable dishes, excellent wine tastings, and distinctive pairings, much to the delight of the city’s gastronomic adventurers.

Located in the heart of Pest’s Jewish Quarter at a bustling corner of Kazinczy Street, Macesz Huszár opened for business in 2013 and immediately became one of downtown’s most popular eateries with its high-quality modern versions of traditional Hungarian and Jewish specialties. Chef Ákos Tasnádi continuously updates the menu with seasonal delicacies along with a cherished selection of à la carte dishes. After a recent renovation, Macesz Huszár was reborn as Macesz Bistro, with a goal of showing off the restaurant’s culinary diversity amid a more tastefully relaxed ambience.

Along with the brighter and more playful image, Macesz Bistro also aims to live up to its new name by serving as something of a community gathering space, equally appropriate for a casual lunch or an elegant dinner date – and the management also wants to provide special experiences for regular guests and Budapest visitors, providing inspiration for the Macesz Gastro Tour.

The idea behind these monthly Macesz Gastro Tour events is to invite locally renowned star chefs and celebrity foodies to create special dinners along with Chef Ákos based on a special theme or concept, resulting in unique and special flavors every month to be enjoyed along with the esteemed guests.

The previous two Macesz Gastro Tour meals were both sold-out successes – the first was held with high spirits thanks to the good libations of Magyar winemaker Gábor Merfelsz, while the success of the second one was due to gregarious Hungarian gastro blogger András Jókuti. Positive feedback commended not only the food and the atmosphere, but the service, as well, since the staff members take care of their guests with thorough attention and care.

For the next dinner on June 17th, Italian and Jewish flavors will be mixed with the help of Italy native Gianni Annoni, one Budapest’s most successful restaurateurs. For one evening, Ákos Tasnádi hands over the kitchen of Macesz Bistro to Gianni and Alessandro Manna, the chef of Trattoria Pomo D’Oro, so that they can bring the tastes of Rome’s Jewish Quarter to Budapest’s Jewish Quarter with a genuine Italian dinner. Bean cream, Roman-style artichokes, milky-spicy lamb, chicory sprouts, cod, Roman sprouts, and strawberry strudels will all be on the menu, which costs 11,900 forints – a rather reasonable price, considering that this includes mineral water and wine consumption with the dinner.

After the June 17th Macesz Gastro Tour event, the organizers will take a summer break, but are scheduled to return in the fall with additional popular Budapest gourmets like Hungary’s popular cooking-show host Zsófi Mautner.
