In spite of the changing weather, summer is not neccessarily over. Even if you’re forced to go back to work, there are quite a lot of things in Budapest that will boost your mood, remind you of your holiday, and will cool you down in the autumn-ish heatwaves of early September. It’s not that hard to figure out we’re talking about the coldest of all desserts, ice creams, the best of which are offered in the places listed below. Read on, then choose as you will!

Before we kick off our tour-de-ice-cream, let us spare a moment for the gist of our concept. Just like we had done last year, we’ve once again decided to include both traditional and new school ice cream shops, because, even though you can’t please everyone, it’s always worth trying.

Egy falat Csendes

Serene Csendes-family has taken over Károlyi Garden’s neighborhood. The new kid on the block, Egy falat Csendes, is the third child in the family, and is responsible for bringing ice creams to the table. Cake Shop - József Attila utca

A piece of precious knowledge: the sorbet at Cake Shop consists of 95% fruit purée and 5% sugar, standing proud without a drop of artificial ingredients. If you’re the type of sweet-toothed that believes a tasty slice of cake is worth dying for, be sure to contact an insurance company before you set off for Cake Shop.

Desszert.

Desszert, located on busy Erzsébet Square, is the final piece for a street food-puzzle previously consisting of two spots, Leves. (soup in Hungarian) and Pasta. Desszert’s selection is similar to the main topic of awkward conversations (i.e. the weather) – it almost changes daily. Scoops are served in cups, which are certainly deceiving in their size, and are able to contain a surprisingly sizeable portion of ice cold delicacies. The selection is made up of four basic types: a classic flavor, a specialty, a cakeish variation, and a fruity scoop for healthy eaters.

Dolce Intervallo

If you prefer the classic tastes, this bar is the perfect choice for you. If you would eat delicious chocolate, fresh strawberry, or an intensive vanilla, you will find everything you need. This is the place, which reminds us of our childhood, the taste bring back our special memories.

Napfényes Cukrászat

This sunshiny confectionary (Napfényes Cukrászat translates to Sunshiny Confectionary) is a holy site for dessert-craving vegans, offering a wide array of life sweeteners fine-tuned for the strict yet healthy rules of a vegan diet. Ice creams contain neither sugar nor additives, and are perfectly safe for the lactose-intolerants.

Valdocco Astoria Fagylaltozó és Cukrászda

Recently-opened Valdocco is already considered one of the best in the business, which is certainly not a coincidence. For a couple scoops of proof, head over to this Astoria-based, tiny ice cream shop, where bigger and smaller portions – the latter aimed at kits and those looking to taste as many ice creams as possible.

Flavors: the 16-membered ice cream line up is ever-changing. Classic, fan-favorite flavors – chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, lemon, and pistachio – are present at all times, while a wine-flavored specialty is a recurring guest.

Fragola

Glucose is one of the basic ingredients of Fragola ice creams, resulting in a light taste and a high level of fruit content (about 60%), which is basically through the roof in the case of creamier variations (from 80 to 100%). There’s no shortage of extreme flavors, so be brave and be adventurous!

Gelateria Lavanda is a piece of Italy located at St. Stephen’s Basilica, the biggest church of Budapest, which also happens to be one of the most mesmerizing buildings in the whole city.
