The official programmes on the national holiday of the
20th of August
will follow the traditional pattern but some brand new elements will be introduced as well.

















8.30: Raising of the flag and ceremonial officer inauguration at Kossuth Squre


Speeches
will be delivered by János Áder, President of the Republic, and Csaba Hende Minister of Defence. The children’s choir of Magyar Rádio will be performing live.






















10.00 – 11.00: Aerial and water parade on the Danube


A spectacular parade of military and civil airplanes, parachutists, aerobatics and hang-gliders. A water parade will take place on river
Danube
between
Margit
and
Erzsébet Bridge
.






















10.00 – 22.00: Magyar Ízek Utcája – Promenade of Hungarian Flavours


During the two days of the event visitors have a chance to taste the best dishes of traditional Hungarian cuisine. Fine-quality
Hungarian
products will also be available to purchase and special national drinks will be served as well.






















11.00 – 18.00: Family programmes along the banks of River Danube


On
Clark Ádám Square
and on
Bem Square
dance shows, live concerts and puppet-shows will be performed.






















13.00 – 20.00: Open day in Parliament


On the 20th of August the
Parliament
will be opened for the public. In the afternoon visitors can enter without a previous registration and they can discover the building of the
Parliament.






















15.00: Ecumenical bread blessing ceremony – The start of the harvest march at Ádám Clark Square


A speech will be delivered by
Gábor Tamás Nagy
, major of the 1st district of
Budapest.
The Association of Folk Art (Népművészeti Egyesületek Szövetsége) will be present as well.






















16.00 – 19.00: István Gyulai Memorial Athletic Race


The world’s best athletes – alongside our national treasures, the best
Hungarian
sportsmen – will be competing against each other to commemorate
István Gyulai.






















17.00:
Mass


The liturgy in front of
Saint Stephen’s Basilica
will be performed by cardinal, primate Péter Erdős, archbishop of
Budapest
and
Esztergom
, head of Hungarian Catholic Bishop Conference.






















18.00: Procession of the Holy Right Hand


The route of the procession will be the following: Szent István Square, Október 6. Street, József Attila Street, Széchenyi István Square, Zrínyi street, Szent István Square.






















18.00 – 21.00: Chain of Wishes on the banks of the Danube


Live, charity show in association with Petőfi Rádió.
