A new chapter has just begun for Retro Lángos Budapest: their second shop has opened right next to Parliament, on Vécsey Street. Here, guests are welcomed with sleek interiors, a restaurant-like atmosphere, and friendly, professional service. Of course, the menu still features their signature classic and creative lángos, along with gluten-free and vegan options, hearty Hungarian dishes, and tempting desserts.

We already know Retro Lángos Budapest from its Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street location, which quickly became a favourite among both locals and tourists. It’s no surprise – service is fast, and when it comes to lángos, there’s something to suit every taste.

At the end of May, Retro Lángos opened a new shop in the city centre. Run as a friendly family business, the venue is located between Parliament and Szabadság Square, on easily accessible Vécsey Street. Alongside the classic cheese-and-sour-cream lángos, you’ll find filled versions and truly special flavours, as well as gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. The menu also features homestyle goulash soup, grilled chicken, Greek salad, and tempting desserts. There’s even a bar, where you can order draft beer, spritzers, Hungarian wines, or refreshing lemonades in various flavours. Take a seat on the cosy terrace or indoors and enjoy the tastes – but note that reservation ahead is recommended here.

Lángos made with passion and expertise

I’ve tried many things in hospitality, but running a lángos shop turned out to be the most fulfilling. There’s an honest joy in lángos for me.

As co-owner, Dániel Varga practically grew up surrounded by the smell of lángos – his grandparents fried it at the market, his parents later continued with their grill business, and after a short detour, he eventually returned to this family tradition himself. His business partner, Krisztián Gál, shares a similar background: as a child, he was already busy in the buffet world along Lake Balaton, where his family served one of the most beloved beach foods. As he puts it:

The dough has a soul.

They’ve kept the traditional Hungarian flavours and brought their expertise with them, but gave the recipes a little twist and added extra toppings to the menu. At Retro Lángos Budapest you’ll now find a wide selection – from the classics like cheese and sour cream, or dill, sheep’s cheese and bacon, to filled versions stuffed with cabbage or pulled pork. And of course, vegetarians and vegans will also find plenty to enjoy.

There are 13 types of gluten-free lángos to choose from, ranging from savoury to sweet. The team makes sure not only in using high-quality ingredients but also in avoiding cross-contamination, making sure that guests with food sensitivities can enjoy gluten- and lactose-free, as well as meat-free and vegan variations.

If you’d like to start with a hearty, spicy, homestyle goulash soup made with tender beef, fresh vegetables and a flavourful paprika broth, you can. And if it’s something lighter you’re after, grilled chicken breast or even pancakes are also on the menu.

Every month they also prepare a special offer. In August, for example, it was a truly light yet flavour-packed Mediterranean creation topped with grilled aubergine and courgette, cherry and sun-dried tomatoes, served with herb-infused olive oil.

Family-friendly venue

Retro Lángos has thought of the little ones too: to make family time truly carefree, children can enjoy toys, while older kids will find an arcade game to keep them entertained. For mums and babies, a dedicated baby-mother room ensures a comfortable, calm environment. Summer will wrap up here on 30 August with a real Back to School family day.
