Hungarians love fruit-based syrups mixed with cold soda water, especially in summertime, and a new Budapest business provides these beverages from the back of electric carts. Marci and Dávid wanted to offer something unique in the city’s ever-changing street-food scene, and decided to sell the refreshing concoctions in varied locations – and thus, Spritzzz was born.

There’s no shortage of ingenious ideas and resourceful enterprises in Budapest. Whenever we think there aren’t any more gaps in the market left to fill, someone comes along and refutes this assumption with yet another great idea. A few weeks ago, one of these ideas – which has been maturing for two years and was executed in a few weeks – burst into Budapest, combining syrup sodas with renewable energy in the form of a special electric cart called Spritzzz.

The electric cart contains a variety of delicious syrups (six classic and six premium flavors) and plenty of soda water. Some of the fruit syrups are from Transylvania’s Gheorgheni Mountains, which are delivered to Budapest on passenger buses to end up getting squirted into a logo-decorated plastic cup alongside some ice, lemon slices, and soda. The fizzy soda, made with Szigetközi mineral water, is contained in a 170-liter tank that the boys installed themselves, following an online tutorial.

The cart is currently parked at Heroes’ Square, and it seems like this will be its primary location for awhile. Here we can try classic flavors like elderberry, or more special pine cone or rose petal syrups from 10am until 8pm daily. Recently, another cart was added to the fleet, with plans to add more in the future. A GPS-based application will soon allow us to track the carts and even request that they travel to specific locations, so we’ll be able to enjoy genuine, refreshing syrup even if we’re hanging around Erzsébet Square and suddenly have a Spritzzz craving.

The prices are rather friendly: 3 deciliters of the classic flavors cost 480 forints, while a half-liter glass costs 650 forints. As for the premium flavors, we can expect the price to vary between 580 and 850 forints, and we can pay by card, as well.
