Édes Pötty confectionery recently opened on Süss Nándor Promenade in District XI, proffering healthy and colorful cakes made without any additives. However, this does not mean that sweet-toothed guests cannot have sugary snacks here, they just have to browse the treats found below the healthy bites in the counter.

This new bijou confectionery is found on Süss Nándor Promenade – named after a mechanical engineer – behind MOM Park, and here, the real deal is not their “regular” cakes that are actually sweetened with cane sugar, but the homey treats that are made without sugar, gluten, lactose, and eggs.

Édes Pötty started out as a family business in a lovely southern-Hungarian city, Kecskemét. In the beginning they only made cakes to order, but soon afterwards they opened a small store, and its success motivated them to bring the business to Budapest, too.

Their Budapest shop also focuses on salubrious sweets, however, the cakes are always made in Kecskemét, and are transported fresh to Budapest. This means that in this confectionery there are no pre-made or frozen treats at all.

They do not use any artificial ingredients; all of them, for instance the almond flour, are added to the cake dough in their natural form. Furthermore, they are also glad to fulfill almost all special requests when taking cake orders.

They take pride in their paleo cakes which they say could not be distinguished from regular treats with eyes closed. Their prices fall into the middle category, as a bigger slice of paleo cake – from truffle through banana to chestnut flavors – costs 850 forints.

Their biggest personal favorite is their krémes, (a Hungarian cream dessert), and its recipe was finalized after 8 (!) months of experimenting; we have to say it was worth it. We haven’t had such a soft, light, and pleasantly sweet krémes with a crunchy top for a while. It is definitely worthwhile to try.

Their own biscuit-cottage cheese dessert and paleo zserbó (that is not really available elsewhere) are also highly recommended, not only because they are truly tasty, but also because they are healthy, so we can enjoy them to the last bite without having to feel guilty.
