An artisanal bakery, that is also vegan? At Fill Good, they use only natural ingredients and offer rolls filled with chocolate, cacao, and banana, along with rustic Italian pizzas and special chocolate pastries too. Not to mention that the small but charming additive-free spot on Hollán Ernő Street opens at 8:30am, making this an ideal spot for buying healthy breakfast – both for those who are dedicated to an animal-product-free life, and anyone else just looking for tasty treats.

Fill Good is basically a small bakery located next to Madal Café: master baker Zoltán Péntek and creative vegan chef Nóra Vetsey create everything on the spot, which goes from the oven to display cases – or into the next customer’s hands. At first glance, it’s hard to decide what we want to taste: they offer rustic pizza with potato and rosemary, “töltike” (a Hungarian stuffed-dough pastry) filled with banana and poppy seeds, and also pretzels. They all seem to be delicious.

Nóra and her brother Bálint – who is the third member of the team – are longtime vegans, and Zoltán was converted by them. This means that everything they offer does not contain animal products; the soy yogurt comes from a bio farm, and as an alternative to white sugar, they use cane sugar. Instead of additives, they only thing you can taste in their pastries is what their name suggests: in their banana-flavored rolls, the cream is made out of real bananas with quality chocolate added to it, and their version of the classic Sport chocolate bar tastes like the classic sweet, but it’s made with dark chocolate.

As for the pizza, two out of the three founders spent a long time living in Rome, so they are real masters of their craft. After a quick tasting, we have to admit that even though they couldn’t dethrone IGEN Italia with their version of the classic Italian treat with potato and rosemary topping, we can easily imagine that not only vegans will be a fan of the Fill Good variety.

The aforementioned “töltike” is basically a puff pastry with its center cut out and replaced with all kinds of filling, like poppy seed-banana or different vegetable ragouts. If you aren’t tired of classics, you can also order a patty – when we were there, they had a potato-and-pumpkin-seed flavored version, and another one that was rosemary-and-pumpkin flavored. None of them was a disappointment; if we could buy pastry like that everywhere, our mornings would start in a much better way. Of course there are seasonal offers, so the daily menu – aside from some favorites – will be a bit different every day.

Even though Zoltán pointed out that every venue seems to be popular on its opening day, as we saw it, locals quickly fell in love with Fill Good. So it can happen that there is lin in front of the vegan bakery, but in return, you can also buy artisanal bread loafs from them. We encourage everybody to leave the deep-frozen pastries of subway-station shops behind and try these healthy creations – you won’t regret it.
