Hisztéria Cremeria is a freshly opened new-wave ice-cream parlor on Andrássy Avenue that entices everyone with a wide selection of at least 25 types of frosty treats. The deliciously cold and creamy desserts can be topped with milk or dark-chocolate sauce, and as an alternative, guests can also choose among an assortment of tasty cakes. Hisztéria also features a show kitchen, meaning that they make their ice creams on the spot, so if you’re lucky you might arrive at the perfect time to watch how these beloved treats are made.

As the most elegant boulevard of Budapest, Andrássy Avenue is an ideal spot for strolling with some delicious ice cream – yet there is still a lack of ice-cream parlors around here, aside from the noteworthy new Moritz Eis store. However, since Hisztéria recently opened in the place of the former Bonbonetti shop, we have a new place for select scoops made with true ice-cream expertise based on 26 years of experience in creating frosty confections in Budapest.

The Ipacs Family has been in the business for years already; in the old times they gave out ice-cream cones in the summer season from a small wooden hut in the Hungarian village of Tápiószecső, before they dreamed big and opened two cafés in two different shopping centers in Budapest (today, only the one in WestEnd by Nyugati Station is still operating). Later, they also expanded their Tápiószecső confectionery brand into a cake complex that is noted as an imposing roadside “ranch”, and have recently opened another confectionery in the Hungarian town of Gyömrő, and it seems like now the time has come for a more serious store in Budapest.

The interior of the Andrássy Avenue shop charms its visitors with the vivid colors of ice creams mixed with white, and a clean and fresh design, which is modern but still reflects the retro elegance of old-fashioned ice-cream parlors. Guests can take a seat inside or outside, and can also order delicacies on a plate for a longer stay. We tried their raspberry opera cake and a coconut-blueberry concoction.

The ice creams are homemade, and the assortment is really broad; we found about 25 different flavors, with each carefully displayed with what potential allergens they contain. Most of the fruity frosties are lactose-free; there are several sorbets, and two kinds of sugar-free selections. A small portion of ice cream, comprising 10 dkg and two flavors, costs 600 forints, while the medium-sized offer contains 15 dkg and three flavors for 900 forints, and the large option is 20 dkg with four flavors. At Hisztéria, we found such special concoctions as lychee-raspberry, New York cheesecake, melon with Parma ham, lavender-peach, and cream-caramel-pine nut. Of course, diehard strawberry-chocolate-vanilla lovers will not be disappointed either.
Our favorites were the pistachio and passion fruit flavors, and we even asked for dark-chocolate sauce in our cone; this way, they scoop our ice cream on top of some chocolate sauce, and then top it with even more, so the chocolate on the top of the scoop quickly hardens, but the sauce below stays runny. Clearly the owners of Hisztéria know how to satisfy the inner child of every customer...
