Nowadays it seems that large portions of the global population suffer from various food allergies, or follow special diets, so it’s important for Budapest to keep up with the newfound needs of diverse diners. The city’s newest place to offer delicious solutions to the difficulties of everyday food allergies is Cikória Lifestyle Bar, which opened near Móricz Zsigmond Square a few weeks ago. The eatery features an assortment of gluten-free foods, but also aims to adapt to other dietary sensitivities, as well.

Cikória Lifestyle Bar opened on Villányi Road, a few minutes’ walk away from Móricz Zsigmond Square, a few weeks ago. The name (“Chicory” in English) already suggests that they offer solutions to the difficulties of everyday food allergies, which also include chicory itself, known for its beneficial effect on digestion, in the project.

The idea of the place was devised by a company that’s been distributing enzymes and specialty ingredients for people with food allergies for quite some time. The reason for opening the “lifestyle bar” was that they wanted to help customers more efficiently and establish a more personal relationship with their products, serving as a sort of showroom for the diverse dishes available to those with special diets.

In the restaurant we can eat cakes, ice cream. and daily specials in a rather wide selection, including cream of celery soup sprinkled with blue cheese, potato soup with fresh marjoram, or cauliflower casserole with turkey, but occasionally they also offer vegetarian and vegan dishes. We can order foods separately or in a menu (soup: 550 HUF, main dish: 890 HUF, both: 1,290 HUF). It’s important to note that everything is gluten-free here, since they find that most people needing special diets struggle with gluten sensitivity.

The one thing that should definitely be tried here is the chicory coffee, which doesn’t contain any caffeine, so not only can it be consumed during pregnancy, but it is also very tasty and healthy. The plant contains a lot of mineral salts, digestible fibers, and carotene (A vitamin).

The place became so popular in just a few weeks that they’re already contemplating expansion, and will soon launch an event-planning project for the sake of children with food allergies, so that no one with special diets will feel disadvantaged for it.
