Nowadays, when you can find a new-wave coffeehouse on nearly every corner of Budapest, how can a freshly opened café attract visitors? One sure-fire way is to provide something that the city previously lacked – for example, a place where guests can take a break for hot beverages alongside the world’s most iconic heroes and villains, from Batman to Darth Vader. This is the unique atmosphere offered at ComiX Coffee, located halfway between Astoria and Kálvin Square in downtown Pest.

In recent weeks, a new café opened on Múzeum Boulevard where we can step out of the bustling city-center scene to enter a fantasy lair of intergalactic clashes between good and evil.
ComiXCoffee is the brainchild of a young woman who became bored with multinational coffeehouse chains, and started to turn an empty shop on this busy street into a place where she would like to relax surrounded by her favorite comic-book characters.

The concept is simple: everybody loves superheroes, and would love to sip a coffee in their company. If you can read an issue of a Star Wars comic while chewing on a tasty sandwich, well, that’s even better.

There actually aren’t too many comics at the place, but the collection grows with the latest editions day by day. However, when it comes to design items, ComiX

Coffee already seems like a party place at Comic-Con International: you can find Darth Vader and Spider-Man Lego figures among the coffee beans and a Batman-shaped sugar bowl, and more superhero-related décor items will be continually added to the collection.

The ComiX Coffee logo is also exciting: the drawing is basically an AT-AT stomper from The Empire Strikes Back, but also a coffee-bean grinder. It was originally the image planned for a leg tattoo, but it ended up becoming a logo for this comic-inspired café.

When it comes to the menu, it’s just as long as it should be: you can order sandwiches, and Italian-coffee drinks like latte (490 HUF), which goes well with different pies: pumpkin, apple, and Oreo versions are just the tip of the iceberg next door to Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. Guests can also have cheesecake (550 HUF), which also has pumpkin- and Oreo-flavored variations. To provide a super-buzz, ComiX Coffee offers assorted alcoholic beverages as well, which can easily be a lifesaver on a cold and windy autumn day.

But powerful drinks are not the only way that ComiX Coffee attracts students and youngsters: starting in November, they will host comic-book-themed quiz nights, and customers who arrive with a ticket for the new Star Wars movie will get a discount. Future plans also include a heated terrace for smokers – we only hope that its design will be as memorable as the café’s interior.
