From a soothing yoga class amid the vast parkland of Margaret Island to a guided hiking tour conquering the Buda Hills, a nonprofit sports association offers free and inexpensive English-language activities in and around town for Budapest-based students, expats, and anyone who is looking for an action-packed group workout. For over a year now, the initiative aims to break down language barriers and build a bridge between foreigners and the city they live in, all through the power of sports.

After a short summer break, the International Sport Association of Budapest (ISAB) is back in action with a range of health-boosting activities happening citywide. The society’s monthly calendar is already filled with a wide assortment of exuberant events that anyone can join, whether staying in Budapest for days or for years. From international students to cosmopolitan expats, an increasing number of participants join the high-spirited events set up by this nonprofit organization, providing a perfect way to meet fellow foreigners and interested locals, all getting closer to the community through athletic endurance and laughter. From a fun-filled freeFrisbee session to full-day hiking tours – and even extreme sports like rock climbing – plenty of outdoorsy occasions fill the September timetable, while many other events will be offered in the coming months, including lots of indoor activities during late autumn and wintertime. While most events usually draw about five to ten participants, some events attract large active crowds from all over the globe, trekking up and down the forested hills during the daylong hiking excursions, or uniting in teams for friendly soccer competitions.

Anyone interested in signing up for the upcoming ISAB events can visit the group’s Facebook page, where the schedule is frequently updated with new activity sessions, along with other sports-related news and activities happening in and around Budapest.
