The long-neglected underground-railway trains of Budapest’s blue line will soon be renovated to roll on for another quarter century, although we still have to wait a year and a half before we can travel from Kispest to Újpest in these renewed rides. However, now we can provide a preview of how they will look.

The Russian Metrowagonmash company will refurbish 37 trains for the Metro 3 line, according to the tender. Unfortunately, the renovation won’t include equipping these cars with air-conditioning devices – six fans will provide salvation in times of unbearable heat.

It will be more comfortable to travel with the refurbished metro, according to Budapest’s BKK public-transport company, because of new seats and the better sealant, which will result in less traffic noise. Additionally, since this is the subway line that many Hungary visitors first see when arriving to the city from Budapest Airport, we are glad that the facelift will improve the first impression that newcomers will experience while riding into the heart of the city.
