Since opening on a crowded stretch of Dob Street in downtown Budapest’s District VII, Vintage Garden became an ever-popular place for its fancifully romantic atmosphere that envelops customers with peace and pretty surroundings – while also providing delicious bistro cuisine. Now the Vintage Garden management opened a new confectionery named The Sweet right next door, offering timelessly tasteful treats amid another storybook-style setting, along with modern paleo goods and lactose- or gluten-free delights, providing something for every sweet tooth.

To complement the creative meals of Vintage Garden (like their chicken-olive-leek lángos), there has always been great demand for select sweets at this Dob Street dining destination, so the idea of the restaurant adding its own confectionery has been cooking for a while. On July 10, they finally opened The Sweet.

This much smaller locale next door to Vintage Garden rocks the same style as its big sister: sleek forms and light colors await those who like their dessert pretty and delicious at the same time. The confectionery focuses on ice cream, cakes, macarons, and charmingly wrapped biscuits, as well as on coffee, hot chocolate, and milkshakes.

The downside of The Sweet is its size: the place is small, meaning that it can hold only about ten people at a time, which can hinder the organization of bachelorette parties here – for which they have already received reservation requests. In short, the patisserie’s takeaway selection is definitely more prominent, considering the predictable success of the pastry shop.

Since this newcomer is still at a very early stage of development, we cannot know what products will be permanent and which ones will change frequently: as for the ice cream, it is likely that in addition to classics like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, the already-famous Oreo-cheesecake flavor will stay on their palette. Still, we can be certain that they will always offer paleo options along with gluten- and lactose-free delight, and vegans can always try the dark-chocolate flavor. One scoop of ice cream costs 290 forints.

As for the cakes, they definitely do not plan on offering Hungarian classics like Rigó Jancsi or krémes – they prefer more extreme sweets, and plan on making their own chocolate, as well.

As an extra service, they will make extraordinary wedding cakes, but are more than glad to provide sweets for birthdays and other events, too.

According to the owner, The Sweet is going to be the kind of confectionery that everyone will be able to love, and where everyone can feel like a regular. Yes, this sounds like a cliché, but not many are disappointed in Vintage Garden, so we can expect this place to make it big in the downtown sweets scene, as well.
