Hungary’s top celebration of select suds is happening June 11-14 with over 200 beers and diverse concerts, all before the majestic cityscape panorama spreading out from Budapest’s Castle Hill. The annual Beer Festival welcomes summer for the fifth time this year, featuring a huge variety of Hungarian and international lagers, ales, porters, and more, all enlivened by a lineup of 16 entertainment acts and a huge selection of freshly prepared foods. This year, the festival focuses on Belgian beer specialities.

Located around the Royal Palace within the Oroszlános udvar (“Lions Court” in Hungarian) – renowned for its for beautiful lighting – and the Hunyadi udvar (“Hunyadi Court”) that once served as the castle’s market, the Jubilee Beer Festival promises to be heaven on Earth for beer fans: in addition to Hungarian craft breweries, the leading beer manufacturers of the country (such as Borsodi, Dreher, and Heineken) will also be represented at the festival. The cavalcade of international flavors will include Czech, Slovakian, Slovenian, German, Austrian, English, and Irish beers as well, while those looking for a milder taste will be satisfied by the cider section. Surrounding the entire scene, spectacular views of the Royal Palace architecture and the Budapest skyline provide plenty of conversation-starting opportunities with fellow festivalgoers.

“All the great beers in one place – that’s how I would sum up this year’s festival. We have managed to bring together the premier beers of the world in the Buda Castle for the Jubilee Beer Festival, bringing an unmatched experience to the local beer-loving audience, presented with the help of the country’s leading beer manufacturers and Hungarian breweries. The festival holds lots of surprises for the guests; let me just say that we have brought along exclusive beer specialities, which were mostly unknown or unattainable up to now,” explained DánielKurucz, one of the festival’s chief organizers.

On top of the exciting beer and gastronomical adventures, guests will be entertained by music until

the wee hours. On Thursday,

Magna Cum Laude will set the pace, followed by the pop/piano virtuoso

ImreRakonczai. Friday will belong to the TotalDanceFestival, bringing a retro feel with Dr. Alban, and the Hungarian dance stars of the 1990s, Kozmix, UFO, and Groovehouse. On Saturday, everyone

will be able to enjoy

the music of their preference, since the stage will be taken by NeotonFamília, NagyFeróand Beatrice, and

the Strikers. The event ends on Sunday, but not before performances by

fire jugglers, Kis Grofó, and the Bohémian Betyárs.

According to tradition, the festival will have a guest-of-honor country again. This time, organizers have chosen
Belgium: at the Belga Udvar (“Belgian Court”), you can survey and taste numerous Belgian beer and chocolate delicacies. Under the sign of environmental consciousness, guests will be able to sip quality suds from beer glasses that they can use for a deposit.

Both day tickets and multi-day passes are available for the event.
