That feeling when you’d happily return to the same spot in the evening for a drink after your morning coffee — we all know it. Luckily, more and more cafés in Budapest are transforming into bars, where your cup turns into a glass and caffeine gives way to cocktails.

By day, these spots are perfect for working on your laptop, catching up with friends, or savouring a slow cappuccino — but come evening, they transform with music, curated wine lists, and signature cocktails to set the mood. Here are 9 places where both the morning calm and the evening charm are equally irresistible.

Dorado – Bar Lola

Located on Klauzál Street, Dorado is a specialty café by day and comes alive at night as Bar Lola. Run by the team behind Mór24, it serves freestyle small plates made from seasonal ingredients and a fine selection of natural wines from Wednesday to Saturday. Here, the calm of the morning and the buzz of the evening go hand in hand — every bite and sip reflecting the place’s creativity and effortlessly laid-back style.

Lokal

On Magyar Street, Lokal welcomes guests as a friendly café by day and transforms into a lively bar by night. Turkish and Spanish flavours meet natural wines and draught beers, creating a warm, unpretentious atmosphere envisioned by owner Pinar Tur — who brought her fine-dining experience into a more casual, heartfelt space where everyone feels at home. The tapas are generous, the menu constantly changes, and the drinks perfectly complement the laid-back Mediterranean vibe.

Rajkai Espresso

Located on Batthyány  tér , Rajkai welcomes guests from morning to afternoon with breakfast plates, homemade cakes, and its own signature Rajkai Blend coffee. As evening arrives, the menu shifts to Negroni and gin & tonic specials, a fine selection of cheeses, cured meats, and olives, plus craft beers from Fehér Nyúl Brewery. With its easy-going atmosphere and the locally brewed Rajkai Él beer, it’s the kind of place you’ll want to linger from sunrise to midnight.

nor/ma grand

Next to Millenáris, in Széllkapu Park, the second unit of nor/ma blends a café, bakery, and evening bar all in one. Combining the traditions of Hungarian and Nordic bakeries, it offers dark, long-fermented breads, pistachio croissants, danishes, sandwiches, and soups — all complemented by cocktails and natural wines. With its Scandinavian calm and carefully sourced ingredients, it’s a spot to enjoy from morning through to night.

Mamie

On Nádor Street, Mamie starts the day as a café, continues as a patisserie, and turns into a cosy bar by evening. Created by the team behind Artizán, it’s a space where grandmotherly warmth meets Scandinavian minimalism and French elegance. The menu features cardamom buns, classic Hungarian pastries, and inventive cocktails — making Mamie a spot that feels modern yet homely, and irresistibly delicious.

Kelet Kávézó

Located on  Bartók Béla út, Kelet Café and Gallery is a café, library, and community space all in one — attracting a diverse, timeless crowd. Thousands of books line the walls, and anyone is free to take one as long as they leave another in return. By day, guests can enjoy Casino Mocca coffee and Édes Sári pastries, while in the evening, the shelves come alive with conversation over wine, beer, and flavourful Eastern dishes.

Heavy Budapest

At Széll Kálmán  tér , the collaboration between Heavy and Wömbat has given life to Heavy Wömbat — a place where brunch vibes meet bar energy. From 7:30 a.m, guests can enjoy CrackerJack coffee, bagels, and indulgent breakfasts like Eggs Benedict bagel or Reuben sandwich. By day, it’s a relaxed community hub and meeting spot; by night, it transforms into a lively venue with music and good times, bringing a fresh splash of colour to Buda’s hospitality scene.

Galamb

On Zichy Jenő Street, Cat Wood Café is a true soul-soothing spot where you can unwind over coffee and cake in the company of 13 purring cats. Inspired by Japanese cat cafés, the space combines a homely atmosphere with warm, friendly service. Guests can choose from coffees, teas, lemonades — and even cat treats for their furry hosts. Open from morning till evening, it’s a haven of purrs and positivity, perfect for anyone missing a little feline company after dark.
