Hardly anything feels better after a long day than sitting back with friends, family or a special someone to enjoy a long conversation over dinner and a few drinks—or blasting out tunes in a karaoke room or dancing until dawn if you're after more stress release. Either way, we've got you covered with great places to visit in Budapest in the after-work hours.
Preferita
Just a stone's throw away from the Opera House and Oktogon, Preferita brings a taste of Italy to the heart of the city. Between 3 pm and 6 pm from Wednesday to Sunday, you can enjoy a 1+1 Happy Hour deal on drought beer or frizzante, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long day. They're celebrating their reopening after a little makeover, and now you can enjoy their pizzas, homemade pasta and cocktails in a fresh and modern setting. The atmosphere is cosy, and the service is attentive, so all you need to do is sit back and embrace a little "dolce vita" after work. But don't worry, you can also stop by earlier, as they’re open from noon to 10 pm for lunch or dinner.
KIOSK
For over 10 years, KIOSK has been a staple of Budapest’s vibrant restaurant scene. Its central location, fantastic food and lively vibes make it an excellent choice for every occasion. Starting October 15th, they're spicing things up with a new snack menu and cocktails inspired by Budapest, perfect for the post-work or pre-dinner period. You’ll find fan favourites like the iconic Mini Burger Trio, truffle fries and some great veggie and vegan options as well. The snacks and cocktails are available from 4 pm every afternoon, and all day on weekends to help you rest up for the week ahead.
Gozsdu Courtyard
When it comes to after-work fun, it’s hard to go wrong with central Gozsdu Courtyard. From dinner to fine wines and parties all night, it’s really got everything. Here are our current top picks:
- Jamie Oliver’s Diner
Get your fix of classic American comfort food made with top-quality ingredients. On weekdays, you can pick two or three courses from Jamie’s favourites, like Fish & Chips, fantastic chicken tacos or churros. More details - DiVino Gozsdu
If you’re in the mood for fine wines, DiVino is the perfect spot with its top-notch Hungarian bottles, long drinks and cocktails. On Thursdays, free live music, and on Fridays and Saturdays, free DJ parties (funk, disco, house) feature. More details - Bluebird Cafe
Though we love Bluebird for its hearty breakfasts and great coffee, it’s also perfect for post-work karaoke. Anytime you feel like belting out a tune, you can take the stage—even on weeknights! More details - CAT Budapest
Ready to dance the night away? CAT Budapest welcomes you with open arms and epic parties, often featuring the biggest electronic, R&B and hip-hop hits. More details - Vicky Barcelona
For a touch of Spanish flair, head to Vicky Barcelona. Along with their fusion tapas and unique cocktails, they’ve got Happy Hour from 6 pm to 8 pm Monday to Wednesday, when you get a free half-litre sangria pitcher if you order two tapas. Thursdays mean live music, while Fridays and Saturdays are all about epic parties. More details
KAA
Tucked away next to a super popular Twentysix bar, KAA is a lush and elegant cocktail bar, evoking the vibes of a nighttime jungle. Every drink here is a masterpiece, which is why they call it 'mixology'. Many of the syrups and fruity and spicy components are their own creations. You can request a drink tailored to your mood or taste, but it’s worth checking out their seasonal menu as well. In October, new wintertime flavours take centre stage. KAA is a peaceful, mysterious hideaway in the bustling heart of Király utca —perfect for unwinding with friends, colleagues or a date.
Kismező
Kismező on Nagymező utca is a perfect spot to try traditional Hungarian dishes, just like a good old local grandmother would make them, but with a modern touch. All-time Hungarian gastronomic superstars like schnitzel and pörkölt (meat stew) feature on the menu, as well as iconic desserts like apple pie. The drink list has a section dedicated to nostalgic Hungarian drinks, which are the favourites of many local teens—coke with red wine, anyone?
Stifler Ház
Speaking of unwinding, Stifler Ház, right next to the central Gozsdu Courtyard, has everything you need for a great night out. With four dance floors playing all sorts of music from the biggest hits to retro classics, karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays, sports broadcasts, a massive LED wall, private booths with their own TVs, a huge pool room with 10 tables, pinball, foosball and plenty of drinks (like freshly tapped Pilsner Urquell straight from the tank), you won’t be bored here. Plus, thanks to the Beer & Burger restaurant, you won’t go hungry either. Oh, and entrance is free every night. What more could you ask for?
