"One chord is fine. Two chords is pushing it. Three chords and you're into jazz." - well, that wasn't exactly our motto when we started this article, but you can't go wrong with Lou Reed, can you? If you feel like funkin' up your weekdays, or the lack of jazz in your life disturbs you, here is our guide to the best concert series and places, where you will surely hear your favourite music style.

SoulClap and Jazz n Bass

SoulClap Budapest is band, who's members share the love for the jazz, soul and funk music of the 60s and 70s, urban hip-hop and cutting-edge electronic music. Even though they are an explosive live squad, they can handle the turntables too: you can catch them every Wednesday at Telep, as a part of Soul On Top nights. And every December, there is a focusing on liquid drum 'n' bass and jazz, and that night is called: Jazz n Bass.

Budapest Jazz Club

As far as clubs as are concerned: Budapest Jazz Club is the number one jazz club of the Hungarian capital, where you can catch both young talents and world-famous, award-winning masters. The sophisticated and welcoming atmosphere, the wide variety of wines and premium sound quality guarantee, that none of the jazz-hearted visitors leave disappointed. If you have no idea, where to spend the 3rd Of April (the Day Of Hungarian Jazz), we can only encourage you to pay this place a visit.

A38

A38 houses some of the most interesting jazz-acts, from slow-burning doom-jazz to pure and raw free jazz. Most of these gigs takes place at the exhibition space, which is quite small (limited to not more than 85 people), but since there is no stage there, the musicians play just a few steps away from you, which is something that doesn't happen every day. As far as sound quality is concerned, we can only say, that everything is loud and clear - just as we like it.

Columbus Jazz Club

Ship and also a club, but not A38? The answer is Columbus Jazz Club, located on Columbus Boat. The view is magnificent, and it is surely as elegant as any other high-end clubs in the heart of Budapest. The sophisticated audience guarantees that you won't think it's raining because somebody spilled some beer on your neck, or that you won't miss a sound, because of loud talk during the concert.

7/8

Opus Jazz Club

The same goes for Opus Jazz Club, but we must add, that their hamburgers are even better than the saxophone solos of John Coltrane. The small gourmet masterpieces come with angus sirloin and king crab, beef marinated in red wine or with a tasty duck steak. The stage – crowned with a piano as black as the ace of spades – is located downstairs, and is visible for all guests regardless of where they sit. Moreover, on account of the outstanding acoustics, the same sound quality can be enjoyed all over Opus.
