The 10th Design Week Budapest, starting on Friday, puts design and style in the spotlight. The exhibitions, workshops, and markets were organized in cooperation with almost 300 partners. This year’s special guest is Italy, and the most prestigious Hungarian design awards are handed out during the course of Design Week. TOP lecture: Michele De Lucchi

Architect-designer Michele De Lucchi is an acclaimed figure of contemporary design. Besides working as an architect, he also is a professor at Politecnico di Milano. The aim of his hypothesis is to emphasize the importance of the connection between arts and crafts.

TOP roundtable: Design Workshop Breakfast

Sipping coffee and eating croissants has never been so stylish and interactive. Béla Rex-Kiss interior designer is going to talk about the furniture of restaurants, auditoriums, theatres and other community spaces. The second roundtable- hosted by a surprise moderator - is centered on the seating culture of community places. Wolfgang Sexl furniture designer spearheads the third event, which is about the spaces and technologies of communication.

TOP exhibition: Maestri

The collection of one of the world's most prestigious design museum is here in Hungary for the first time. Triennale's exhibition from Milan offers legendary and iconic pieces such as the chair of Gio Ponti Superleggera, the lamp of Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni Arco, and the typewriter of Ettore Sottsass Valentine.

TOP fashion show: NON+: Runway in the kitchen

Sarolta Kiss, the designer of NON+, and Anna Bede, an expert of vegetarian cuisine bring their crafts together to give life to a mixture of fashion and gastronomy. Ten different NON+ creations will hit the catwalk accompanied by vegetarian dishes created especially for this occasion.

The teachers and students of Fiatal Iparművészek Stúdiója Egyesület (Association of Young Artists’ Studio) will make use of their limitless creativity to compete with each other at this workshop. They’ll have to accomplish a task by creating something out of the provided materials.

TOP gastronomy: Béterv: Scent Dinner

During the course of six evenings, flavors and scents are brought together in a non-conventional dinner at Aradi utca’s Béterv Apartment Restaurant. Completely new concoctions are created right in front of your eyes after you smelled each perfume and tasted each spice. The themes in chronological order: basil-scent dinner; an introduction to the fundamentals of Italian bread baking, making Italian pasta at home, the regions of Italy through wine and cheese, lime-scent dinner, and another basil-scent dinner.

TOP tour: WeLoveBudapest design tours

Even though the waiting list is getting longer by the minute, if you're lucky enough, you can still grab a spot on one of the walking tours organized by We Love Budapest and Hosszúlépés. The tour called 'Giccstől a coolig' (From Kitsch to Cool) will showcase the scale of products sold all around Budapest ranging from exclusive haute couture masterpieces to the cheap copies of the infamous Chinese market in Józsefváros. 'Mozgó Design' (Moving Design) tour will take you underground to the construction sites of the stops Metro Line 4, presenting the crossroads of public transport, design, architecture and urban areas. The street food-boom, a result of the Budapestian gastronomic revolution, will be put under the magnifying glass at 'Streetfood séta' (Streetfood Walk).

TOP open studio: Hollán9

You can finally become a part of the creative process thanks to Hollán9’s maestros. In the first session, unique working methods are shown, while the second session provides an opportunity for the Average Joe to take a peek inside the mind of the resident designers: an architect, an interior designer, a lamp designer, and a textile designer.
