If only we could start this article by saying that we tried all the best buffets and restaurants of Budapest after a great party. If only we could say that we managed to find the top ten places of the Budapest nightlife. We wanted to find he the best grill bars of Zugló, the healthiest non-stop salad bars of the 5th district and the greatest hummus bars of the 7th district.  Unfortunately there’s no justice – especially when it comes to things like such places. We did our best, we checked a few places at broad daylight and we were extremely disappointed.

If we can be brutally honest, we would say that there is only one place that we would suggest and that is Montenegroi. No matter if you’re sober or drunk, no matter if it’s day or night – this place is the best. We would even go as far as saying that Montenegroi deserves all the spots in the top ten list. However, we tried to collect other places, which deserve an honourable mention, as well. Don’t be surprised if you won’t find Szeráj in our selection. Let’s just make things clear – we would’ve included it but we were very dissatisfied with the foods for the last 4(!) occasions we went there. Dear Readers, this is your time! If you know any good place that offers the best dishes after an intoxicating night or if you happen to have a great gastronomic experience during a night out in the city please let us know!

El Rapido Grill & Tequila Bar (Closed)

El Rapido offers a lot more than just food; you can find cigarette paper, tequila, tampons and burritos as well. The little Mexico on Kazinczy Street is not just an average buffet as you can see. On the ground floor there is pub and an antique shop. Upstairs there’s a Mexican delicatessen shop and a taco bar. The dishes they offer are not extravagant, there’s nothing exciting about them. They are just delicious, Europeanized South-American buffet dishes. There is a kind of fixed quality – you will always get what you are expecting for. From Monday till Thursday they are open till 3am, on Fridays and Saturdays they are open till 4am, and on Sundays they are officially open till 1am, but if there are other guests they tend to extend the opening hours. They have all sorts of chilled beer beverages and their tequila selection is unique. It’s actually a nice little place which is a great getaway during a night out at the city.

Király Curry Wurst - great sausages but nothing more

A typical Austrian curry wurst style buffet opened on Király Street to serve the needy of the Budapest nights. Many people think that although the quality of their food was all right at the beginning, it has decreased a lot ever since. In other worst, curry wurst is the only thing that’s worth having, the other dishes are, let’s just say, unremarkable. May we just add two things that will make you understand what we are talking about: they have the typical tasteless hamburger buns and they use the microwave oven a lot. There are a few other things however, that are quite good; the original Austrian sausages for example, the fine-quality beer selection and the sodas that are quite rare in Hungary (Almdudler, Dr. Pepper and Mezzo Mix).

Twist and chips – it could be all right

This kind of twisted chips, or crisp if you like it, became really popular during the Főzde Beer Festival. When we were at that particular festival a few friends suggested that we should try the spicy crisps. French fries and crisps are great, they are easy to prepare but for some strange reasons no one was able to create the perfect chips in Budapest so far. Párperc krumpli tried to make a few efforts with its burnt potatoes and Belfritt, a franchise inherited from Belgium continued the bad work with the cheap counterfeits. Twist and chips could easily be great – they slice the potatoes to a very interesting shape and they have great sauces. There is one mistake though that they always make; before they give you the crunchy treats. They season the crisps very heavily with Kotányi grill spice mix. You should ask them not to do this; some salt will be more, than enough. Twist and chips should check out what good home-made crisps are like - they should visit trafiq for example, they are real experts when it comes to home-made crisps.
