The 2015
Oldtimer Weekend
will take place again at the popular retro location of
Budapest’s Railway Museum
on April 10-12, with an event space covering 10,000 square meters. Lovers of vintage cars and bikes will get the chance to admire more than
500 beautiful
veteran
vehicles
, among them antique motorbikes that are more than 100 years old and cars with wooden wheels. The organizer will introduce a number of novelties this year: Gate 2 and 3 will lead straight to the Víztorony Park (Water Tower Park), where visitors can admire the Csabai Tájház (Csabai Country House), built at the end of last year.
To provide a taste of the Pig Slaughter Sausage Festival in October, the Békéscsaba’s Tradition Preservation Circle will offer Csabai sausage bites at the Csabai Country House. At the animal pens nearby kids can meet lots of farm animals, enjoy the petting zoo and even give horseback riding a try. And while we are on the subject of farm life, agricultural machinery will also play a part, as veteran tractors and stationary engines will be humming at the
Víztorony Park
all weekend long. Stretching from Gate 2 to the middle passageway, the Street of Gastronomy will await lovers of rural flavors with artisan sausages, pork products, cheeses, jams and other craft items not available in regular shops.

At the Water Tower Park and the Railway Museum, many free
programs
will be organized
for children
: bouncey castle, folk playground, petting zoo with lots and lots of animals, face painting, car simulator, various kids activities and craft workshops. Visitors can use the passageway linking the two parks all day long. Of course, the main attraction will be the exhibition of select vintage automobiles and motorcycles in the 3,000-square meter East Hall and the 1,700-square meter West Hall. This year’s event will again feature a military section with the oldtimer operational vehicles of the
Hungarian Army
and various kinds of military equipment. Naturally, the
Hungarian Transport Museum
will also participate at the biggest Hungarian oldtimer parade, showcasing a special exhibition before the museum closes for renovation for three years from April 15.

The
Youngtimer
exhibition will take place on the paved area in front of the West Hall where legendary classics and sports cars will be put on display. On the paved main street visitors can admire oldtimer buses and trucks, and even take a closer look at them from the inside. The parking area in front of Orient Hall and a nearby grassy field will host the side-event Adventurers Exhibition with ships and caravans. In keeping with the event’s spirit, oldtimer caravans will also be on show. Near the main entrance, a crafts fair and amusement park will be set up with hurdy-gurdy music playing all day. All interactive programs of the
Railway Museum
will be operating throughout the Oldtimer Weekend: garden railway, a car converted for rails, the horse-drawn tram, and a real steam engine that visitors can take for a test ride with the engine operator. A steam engine and railway carriage exhibition, as well as a model railway and railway diorama expo and artisan fair.

A new feature this year will be the three-day meeting of oldtimer cars and motorbikes at the Víztorony Park.
Oldtimer
vehicles with an
OT license plate
are eligible for participation. In addition, the
KGST (Comecon) Party
will take place on Saturday, followed on Sunday by the
Car Tuning Meeting and Expo
. Despite the fact that this latter event is somewhat alien in terms of the spirit of nostalgia, the organizers decided to give young tuning lovers to take part as well. Feel the wind of nostalgia.

Friday, the first of the event’s three days will be
senior’s day
. For Friday a uniform discount admission price of 1,500 HUF applies. Admission prices have not increased since 2014: tickets will cost 2,999 HUF for adults, 1,999 HUF for kids and seniors and 8,999 HUF for families. Prompted by popular demand, the organizers introduced senior’s tickets with the same price as children’s tickets. (Those wishing to purchase a senior’s ticket will be asked to present relevant identification.)
