German artist Kurt Barnert escaped East Germany for the West, but is tormented by his childhood under the Nazis and the GDR regime. Never Look Away (German: Werk ohne Autor), screening on 3 October at the Kino Café Cinema, is a 2018 German coming-of-age romantic drama written and directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. It was nominated for two Academy Awards at this year’s Oscars, in the Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography categories.
