Metropole Orkest make their Budapest debut at the Bridging Europe festival on 16 September. With permanent guest conductor Miho Hazama, the orchestra play new compositions under the title Arakatak: New Music for Metropole Orkest. Redefining genres, the Metropole Orkest dip into pop, jazz, electronica and rock, allowing them to share the stage with the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and Brian Eno. The Budapest programme features music by honorary conductor and master arranger Vince Mendoza, alongside pieces by David Bowie’s Blackstar band leader Donny McCaslin, versatile drummer Mark Guiliana, Dutch experimental French horn player Morris Kliphuis, and the jazz/funk guitarist and bass player Cory Wong. Appearing at prestigious venues such as the Amsterdam Paradiso and Concertgebouw, London’s Barbican and the Royal Albert Hall, the Metropole Orkest have earned no fewer than 21 Grammy nominations and worked on four Grammy-winning productions in the course of their illustrious career spanning nearly eight decades.
