Louise Lecavalier explores new territory in Battleground. This breathtaking solo and duet mixture is inspired by two Italo Calvino characters, the non-existent knight and his squire. The stage is a fight ring and an experimental space where a thousand battles take place, both ephemeral or significant; where heroes and antiheroes and their dreams and disillusionments clash in this mindblowing and unclassifiable dance performance.

Montréal native Louise Lecavalier began her professional dance career at the age of 18 when she met Édouard Lock, with whom she worked together for 18 years. Lecavalier became Lock's muse in his company La La La Human Steps, thanks to her physical power, mastery of the language of dance and powerful technique. In 1985 she became the first Canadian to win a Bessie Award in New York. After dancing with La La La Human Steps for 18 years, in 1999 she started her own path as a choreographer, collaborating with other artists.

"Years go by, but Louise Lecavalier enjoys every moment of her dance performances, and the audience follows with never-ceasing curiosity. […] There’s no doubt that Lecavalier's passion for dance persists, her dynamic and powerful performances are groundbreaking. There’s a subtle air of gracefulness and humility about her; she’s an artist entirely devoted to her work. In one of the interviews she said: “I live for dance, dance is the air I breathe.” (Philip Szporer)
