As of 8 October,
the capital will burst into life as the inaugural Liszt Fest International
Cultural Festival kicks off, providing a whole range of exciting cultural activities until 24 October.
The event celebrates the 210th anniversary of the birth of Franz Liszt, one of
the most influential figures in musical history, often referred to as the rock
star of classical music.
Real
musical delicacies, premieres, classical and contemporary concerts, opera and
dance performances, jazz, world music and pop, as well as literary and fine
arts events will all be showcased. In addition, audiences can not only enjoy shows
at traditional venues, but also get to know cult locations such as Svábhegy
Observatory, Matthias Church and the Párisi Nagy Áruház from a new perspective.
An appearance
by punk icon Patti Smith,
organ concerts in atmospheric churches, a literary evening, an opera-musical inspired
by cult novel Master and Margarita, music by Thomas Hampson and the Orchester
Wiener Akademie, and an electroacoustic concert all add their own colour to the
Liszt Fest, but you can also look forward to exciting accompanying events such
as Art Market Budapest,
the PONT Festival, the Fifth
Hungarian Music Video Contest and the Margó Literary Festival and Book Fair.
