On 9 October, a buzzing cultural festival
packed with music, kids’ activities and workshops awaits visitors in the
gardens of the National Museum, as the renewed PONT Festival moves downtown. Unique concerts, traditional craft and music workshops, as well as photo exhibitions and films
will showcase the cultural treasures of Georgia, Armenia and Hungary.
Wander the magical landscapes of the Caucasus, get to know the Hungarian
dance house movement through a vibrant event catering to all senses, under the
umbrella of the Liszt Fest International
Cultural Festival. PONT
Festival has been showcasing the ‘wonders of the world’, the cultural
heritage protected by UNESCO, since 2017.
The line-up features Quintet Urmuli, who
bring traditional instruments and the enchanting polyphonic singing
straight from Georgia. Armenian heritage will be invoked by the
virtuoso playing of David Yengibarian, who uniquely blends jazz
and elements of Astor Piazzolla’s tango. You can experience the magnetic
pull of Hungarian heritage music at a concert by Kalász Banda, dance
along to Tázló’s Moldavian tunes and bounce with the crowd at Taraf
de Akácfa’s gig, while Klárisok will entertain kids at their
fairytale show. Apart from live music, photos and the documentary Fly Bird, Fly
will tell the story of the Hungarian dance house movement, added to the UNESCO
list ten years ago. A weaving and a dyeing workshop, drumming
and duduk-blowing sessions will help get young and old involved in
traditional skills. Along with the park’s playground, an animation workshop combining digital and manual techniques by BABtér, the Kenderkóc playhouse offers creative games and toys in natural materials, ensuring that there’s plenty
of family fun to be had on the second Saturday in October.
The event will be held in
the gardens of the National Museum, free of charge!
