French conceptualist choreographer, Jérôme Bel brought his world-famous piece to the stage of Trafó with 15 Hungarian players (professionals and civilians alike).
All of them are different. Their age, gender, and skills are varied. Their knowledge about dancing isn’t the same, safety from it comes in a different way to each of them. They aren’t invulnerable, sometimes things work out well, and sometimes they don't. This is an inventory of self-invented dances that can’t be categorized, dances that show the diversity of beauty, that work for a shared desire.
During the two and half years since its premiere, the show has been played more than 200 times from Singapore to Tbilisi and from Chile to Philadelphia. "Gala forces audience expectations to the fore, and blurs the lines between failure and success in performance as it suggests that theater is community, both onstage and off. It’s a tour de force, wildly entertaining and truly radical." (Roslyn Sulcas, The New York Times)
