On Saturday, 26 July, Margaret Island turns Nordic for a day as the Kalevala Friends’ Circle hosts a Finnish-themed picnic in the heart of the city. This free community event is a playful celebration of Finnish culture, complete with a mölkky championship, wellie-throwing contest, bilingual baby music sessions, a treasure hunt, board games, a storytelling corner, and even a mini Finnish language class. Guests are also invited to try traditional Finnish treats — and if you’re joining, bring something to share at the communal table!
