The 31st Budapest International Book Festival returns from 1 - 4 October 2026, this time at a new location: HUNGEXPO Budapest Congress and Exhibition Center. Book lovers can browse a wide selection of titles, including books in English, while this year’s programme puts German-language literature in the spotlight, with Germany, Austria and Switzerland joining as guests of honour alongside the Frankfurt Book Fair. Irish novelist, poet and playwright Colm Tóibín will be the festival’s guest of honour and a nominee for the Budapest Grand Prize. To mark the 50th anniversary of Irish–Hungarian diplomatic relations, several other contemporary Irish authors will also be welcomed to Budapest.
