Ensemble Cantilene were formed in 2016 by early-music enthusiasts from the Budapest Festival Orchestra's and independent musicians. They are led by the world-renowned Dutch recorder-player and teacher Anneke Boeke, who has recorded with the likes of Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Gustav Leonhardt and Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
For the Early Music Festival on 2 March at Müpa, Ensemble Cantilene structured their concert around the works of three giants: Monteverdi, Schütz and Bach, augmented by other figures such as Merula and Praetorius. The performance will showcase a diversity of genres, including a chaconne, a madrigal, a religious motet, an excerpt from a cantata, a trio sonata and even a movement from a famous mass.
