The Cirkó-Gejzír cinema is offering a treat for movie lovers at the festival celebrating its 25th anniversary: 12 special movies by eight renowned directors, which have not yet appeared in Hungarian cinemas before. The films will screen in their original language, many of them in English, but you will also hear Japanese, French, Italian, Portuguese, Greek and Spanish, all with Hungarian subtitles. Among others, audiences can watch Mommy by Canadian Cannes prize-winner Xavier Dolan, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, which Terry Gilliam perfected for decades, The Family Friend by Paolo Sorrentino, as well as Academy Award-winner Sebastian Leilo’s Gloria. Look out, too, for Dogtooth by Yorgos Lanthimos, creator of beloved movies such as The Favourite and The Lobster, and Jacques Audiard’s drama, Rust and Bone. Four movies at the festival will showcase the art of Hirokazu Kore-eda, who won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2018, and was also nominated for an Academy Award.
