Spring is here, which also means the return of open-air venues - among the first to reopen is one of Római-part’s favourite beer gardens, now placing an even stronger focus on community experiences. Alongside classic riverside dishes such as fried fish, fish plates, and grilled options, the menu also introduces a few new additions. We attended the season-opening press event and had a chance to try the new dishes as well.

The aim of Evezős Sörkert Budapest has remained unchanged over the years: to create a relaxed, community-focused space by the Danube, set in a nature-filled environment where food, music, and summer come together. It's a place you return to with family or friends, where different generations can meet and everyone can find something to enjoy - whether it's a programme or a favourite dish paired with a refreshing lemonade or a draft beer. It's an easy escape from the city's pace, offering something that feels close to a mini holiday.

41 years as a social hub on Római-part

Evezős Sörkert Budapest has been welcoming guests to Római-part for over 40 years. The venue has been operated by the Eventrend Group for the past decade, continuously building each new season around previous experiences and guest feedback. This year is no exception, with the same dedicated and professional team returning, meaning visitors are likely to be greeted by familiar faces.

Maintaining consistent quality in a venue with such a large terrace is always a challenge, but it's something Evezős continues to prioritise. The place has a strong base of returning regulars who have been coming back for decades, while families with children, dog owners, and cyclists passing along the riverside path also frequently stop by, whether for a quick break or a longer visit.

One of this year's new additions, introduced in response to guest feedback, is a dedicated children's corner set up in a quieter, more secluded part of the garden. As in previous years, cyclists are also catered for with a small service point, offering basic tools for quick bike fixes along the riverside route.

Zoltán Kőrössy, one of the founding owners of Eventrend Group, shared that although he lives nearby, Római-part is one of those parts of the city that's worth visiting from anywhere in Budapest:

Római-part is a truly special part of the city, as it’s rare to find such an untouched natural setting in a large urban environment - a place where families, dog owners, groups of friends, as well as both older and younger generations can all feel at ease. I’m especially proud that we have so many returning senior guests, for whom there are fewer opportunities to spend an evening with live music, good food, and conversation. From a community perspective, it’s incredibly important that so many generations can come together here at Evezős.

Gábor Nagy, the other founding owner of Eventrend Group , added:

Evezős was the first place where we consciously shifted our focus towards a more local audience and community. That's when we started paying closer attention to domestic guests and their needs. I have this vision of a summer evening when the venue is so full that people can't even find a seat inside, and instead are dancing and talking just outside the space - and fortunately, we're gradually moving in that direction.

Hungarian street food in focus - returning favourites and new additions

At the season-opening press event, Dániel Juhász, creative chef of Evezős Sörkert Budapest, shared that the team had started working months in advance to refine the dishes, while also introducing new additions to the menu.

Based on guest feedback, we’ve kept the dishes that were especially popular last summer, while placing an even stronger emphasis on Hungarian-style street food.

– he said.

The menu focuses on light, summery dishes, creative presentation, and high-quality food that's still quick to prepare. One of the most popular items remains the classic fried hake, now also available in a gluten-free, corn-based coating. The smash burger, a favourite from last year, returns with three new variations. Highlights include the cheddar and jalapeño version, as well as options topped with crispy bacon and onion rings or finished with a rich, truffle-infused house sauce.

Also returning by popular demand is the classic breaded chicken breast filled with ham and cheese, served with options like roasted sweet potato and a fresh salad.

On hot summer days, chilled sour cherry or strawberry soup is likely to be a go-to choice, alongside a range of meat-based, vegetarian, and vegan salads available in several variations. A practical detail is that these come in takeaway-friendly cups, making them easy to enjoy on the go, even during a walk along the riverside. The salads are a highlight here, especially the vegan version topped with hummus dressing and the classic Greek salad, offering something for everyone.

As for desserts, the focus remains on classic, home-style favourites. Pancakes continue to be a popular choice, and alongside the cottage cheese and Nutella versions, cocoa and cinnamon options have been added by popular demand. A new addition this year is túrógombóc (stuffed cottage cheese dumplings), now available with either hazelnut cream or strawberry filling. Doughnuts have also joined the menu, offered both filled and with a sugar glaze.

The drinks menu at Evezős Sörkert Budapest covers everything from popular cocktails and flavoured lemonades to coffee specialities, as well as bottled and draft beers. One of the highlights is the non-alcoholic Budapest Beer on tap, served with a refreshing lemon twist.

A new addition is Fürree dog ice cream, made from natural, nutritious ingredients, offering a safe and refreshing treat for pets during the summer heat.

From children’s programmes to live music evenings

The aim of Evezős' free event series is to offer something for every generation. From spring onwards, weekends already feature live music from early afternoon, while in summer the programme often extends into the evening with concerts. The season opens on 1 May with a mini May Day celebration - including cauldron dishes, grill food, and all the essentials of the occasion - and returning performers throughout the season include Party Dance Band, Pedrofon, and DJ Dominique. For those looking for a more relaxed atmosphere, live piano evenings with a mix of classical and lighter music will also be held regularly.

Families are also well catered for, with children's programmes, puppet theatre performances, and a renewed play area. On 30 May, during the Children's Day weekend, Batyu Theatre will present its Mesemalac puppet show. The event also carries a CSR aspect, reflecting the Eventrend Group's long-standing commitment to social responsibility. Around 40 guests from the Egy Lépéssel Több Alapítvány will be invited for a shared lunch, while children can explore the new play corner at Evezős Sörkert Budapest. Batyu Theatre will return monthly with performances, with details available on the venue's Facebook page.

The Eventrend Group brings more than three decades of experience in hospitality and event management, currently operating over 35 projects and employing around 1,300 people. Its portfolio includes nearly 25 gastronomic venues - among them Gundel Restaurant, New York Café, and Centrál Café - while also managing the sales of around 100 unique event locations.
