Tandem Book and Coffee was long known as Nagykovácsi's beloved bookshop and café, a cosy meeting point for readers and coffee lovers alike. While the idea of eventually expanding toward Budapest had been floating around for some time, the move happened sooner than expected. Instead of opening a second location, the mother-and-daughter business decided to relocate entirely from the agglomeration to the capital, bringing their warm, book-filled haven to Óbuda.
I've always loved independent bookshops, but in the capital I hadn't really come across one that truly combines the love of reading with good coffee - which makes it all the more exciting that Tandem, a favourite in Nagykovácsi, has arrived in Budapest.
The cosy, friendly atmosphere that defined the original bookshop has carried over to the new location as well. It's the kind of place where you can happily drop in, sit down, and take a moment to unwind. Choosing a book here becomes a special experience too, as the staff are happy to offer personal recommendations and insights about many of the titles. Since the previous location regularly hosted book clubs, film screenings, and community events, these programmes are also expected to find a home at the new Óbuda spot.
Sára and Virág welcome both returning and new Tandem visitors at Bécsi út with the same enthusiasm and care they showed in Nagykovácsi - along with thoughtfully selected books and engaging recommendations. It's well worth stopping by even if you're not planning to buy a book, but simply looking to recharge for a while in a warm, book-filled setting.
