Sofi Tukker—the high-energy electro-pop duo of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern—are all about rhythm and playfulness. After lighting up the Budapest crowd back in 2022, they’re returning on 15 July to Budapest Park, this time with one of last year’s most danceable albums, Bread, presented by Live Nation.

The Grammy-nominated duo Sofi Tukker —made up of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern—met while studying at Brown University. Tucker, who once pursued basketball, turned to DJing after a health condition ended his sports career. Sophie had just returned from Rio de Janeiro, where she was part of a jazz trio performing original bossa nova tracks. Soon after, Tucker convinced her to move to New York and take a leap into music. A year later, their debut single Drinkee was born—later earning them a Grammy nomination, alongside their first album.

Their infectious tracks have popped up in ads for Apple, Peloton, and Smartwater, while the duo have collaborated with a host of international artists and remixed countless dance-floor favourites. Following their 2018 debut album Treehouse and 2022’s energetic WET TENNIS , their 2024 release— Bread —marks their boldest and most innovative work to date.

Two years in the making, Bread is filled with danceable beats and radiant joy. It’s a playful yet meaningful call to shake off fear, embrace life, and wash it all down with a shot of optimism. The album fuses Brazilian funk, drum and bass, bossa nova, pop, Portuguese poetry—and, of course, fun. As Sophie puts it:

Bread is pure energy. Literally: it’s a carbohydrate. That’s exactly what we want our music to be—something that gives you energy the moment you press play.

Tucker adds that while they didn’t initially plan for Bread to be the title track, the song slowly revealed itself as the heart and message of the album. Despite its simplicity, the word “bread” began to take on deeper meaning:

It’s an everyday word that can mean so much more. The world can be dark, but it’s also fun. Bread is abundance, energy, sensuality, and togetherness—it’s also short for ‘Really Energetic And Dance’.

After all, bread has always been a symbol of abundance, energy, sensuality, and togetherness—and, as the duo cheekily note, it also stands for Really Energetic And Dance .

Bread is something people all over the world use to connect and come together

– adds Sophie.

This sense of joy and connection pulses through the entire album. Featuring guest appearances by Channel Tres, MC Bola, and Kah-Lo, and collaborations with producers Richard Beynon and Marcio Arantes, Bread was recorded around the globe—but its heart is in Brazil.

I feel proud of the connection we have with Brazil,” says Tucker. “It plays such a huge role in our music—it feels like Brazil is the third member of the band.

– says Tucker.

Sophie speaks fluent Portuguese, and their extended time in Brazil deepened their bond with the country and its poetry. One of their long-time friends and collaborators, Brazilian poet Chacal, contributed original works to the album, including lyrics for Cafuné—Sophie’s favourite Portuguese word, which describes the act of tenderly running fingers through someone’s hair, and has no direct English translation.

The album’s decadent cover features Sophie wearing a custom outfit made entirely of bread, standing in front of a landmark in Rio, surrounded by joyful Brazilian dancers. It’s a perfect introduction to Bread’s world—beautiful, witty, bold, and always ready to dance. This blend of depth and lightness is at the core of Sofi Tukker. Beyond instant musical success, they’ve made their mark in fashion and championed a number of social causes. Their world is one of contrasts—yin and yang, organic and electronic, purpose and party, nature and city, Sophie and Tucker. And on 15 July, their one-of-a-kind world lands in Budapest Park.
