Hunting for cool local design is always a good idea – especially when you're somewhere new. Makers' Market is the perfect place to do just that, with pop-up fairs featuring unique creations, talented makers, good coffee, tasty bites, easygoing tunes, and a sense of community. Check out where you can catch them this summer.

Why check out a local design market?

There's no better place to get to know local talent  – and get your hands on unique gifts – than a design fair. Take Makers' Market Budapest, the love project of Petra Hoffmann and Károly Boldizsár (creators themselves)! Popping up once or even twice a month, it brings together a curated lineup of Hungarian makers, all showcasing their gorgeous handmade pieces. With more than 80 vendors, Makers' Market has become a must-visit event. And trust us, you'll want to take your time. It’s the kind of place where you can easily spend an entire afternoon browsing, chatting, and enjoying the creative energies.

What will you find?

Quirky ceramics, pretty jewellery, scarves, caps, colourful waistcoats, gorgeous wreaths, unique clothing, baby goodies, candles, playful socks, dog accessories, vibrant prints – you name it! The lineup mixes rising stars and well-known brands, so expect to come across names like LUNAR Budapestbl.unkaKamay Ko, groWsie, MADZAG, TAANKA, HIRAETHZsuzsanna Sinkovits Ceramics, Mrs Herskin, Blúme – and many, many more!

Whether you're just window shopping or actually walking away with some beautiful finds – that's totally up to you. You don't even have to buy a thing. Just soak up the vibes: chat with makers, join a workshop, sip banging coffee, or grab a bite. It's a proper community hangout with friendly faces, cute dogs (yep, pups are welcome!), and a DJ spinning tunes to keep the energy flowing.

When and where?

Lucky you – Makers' Market is popping up all summer long, so catching a fair won't be that hard. Even better, they've got two locations – one on each side of the river – and they come with their own unique vibes. Zsiráf is a laid-back, open-air bar near Nyugati Railway Station, perfect for sunny browsing and chilling. Over in Buda, Fény utca Market offers a totally different feel: a classic market hall steps away from Széll Kálmán tér. We say, check out both if you can!
