You won’t have to wait long to hop on the Christmas tram and other festive rides! Starting 2nd December, they’ll be sparkling through Budapest. Here’s where we expect to catch them!

The Christmas tram, a yellow tram decked out in twinkling lights, is a much-awaited attraction every festive season, for locals and tourists alike. With a bit of luck (and patience), you can even hop on for a ride. And it's not just trams getting the Christmas glow – buses and the Cogwheel Railway are joining in too! The 'festive fleet' rolls out at 5 pm on 2nd December from their depot (Hungária kocsiszín). And if you want to catch the big moment, you're more than welcome to – just keep an eye on their Facebook page for the details.

The BKV has not yet announced exactly which routes will feature decorated vehicles this season, but based on last year's list, the routes can be guessed. In 2023, these lines offered festive rides:

  • UV Tram: 2, 19, 47, 49, 14, 69, 50, 42, 42-50, and 14-41
  • Tatra Tram: 1, 14, 17, 41, 56, 61, 59
