Ditch the Danube keychains and tacky horse statues! Here's where to find Budapest souvenirs with soul. We're not saying Valamini at Astoria is the only hidden gem in the city centre, but Budapest definitely needs more shops like this. Founded by Gergő Bíró, this tiny shop boasts a curated selection of locally designed goodies – perfect for gifts or adding a touch of Budapest flair to your own home.

As small as it is, Valamini, newly opened on Múzeum körút, is a much-needed addition to Budapest's souvenir scene. Stepping inside, we are greeted by mostly Budapest-themed jewellery, zines, and ceramics from Hungarian designers. The shop is the latest project of Gergő Bíró, who created and runs the Valami Produktív workshop and the Valami Hazai online shop, together with Andrea Nácsa. It is a tiny shop where you can buy useful and beautiful products.

Located near Astoria, right next to the Fekete coffee shop (also a must), this small place has a very pleasant atmosphere. We were welcomed by Andi, who, as the designer of the Nandi brand, has a thorough knowledge of the items. When compiling the range, it was important to include in Valamini's selection pieces that are by Hungarian designers, small, not particularly expensive, and many of them Budapest-themed. Whether you're a souvenir sleuth on a tight schedule or seeking a compact token of the city, this shop delivers – think quick grabs and suitcase-friendly treasures!

Melinda Potondi's ceramic pendants were our show-stoppers! We fell for both the dainty necklace versions and the slightly larger pieces. Let's just say, anything from Ceramate Studio's designers would be a prized addition to our homes. Borbála Fű creates clean jewellery, vases, and vessels, while Lóránd Zubor's ceramics are a little more earthy, evoking the world of the Raku ware. It's also worth taking a closer look at the juszuff ceramics, made using 3D printing.

You'll also find jewellery, soaps, posters, postcards, and the essential souvenir shop accessory, the fridge magnet, all made to human taste. In addition to graphics by Marcus Goldson, Zsolt Vidák, and Urban Sidewalker, there is a wide range of zines, including publications by the BPZines workshop and Symposion.

This charming shop lets you meet and support 20 of the 50 talented designers behind Valami Hazai. Browse, chat with the artisans, and treat yourself to a special little something to remember your Budapest adventure. It's the perfect weekday pick-me-up!
