Stepping inside Doboz, you'll find yourself in the spacious inner courtyard, where one of the district's oldest trees – which is more than 320 years old – towers sky high, hugged by an enormous wooden gorilla with glowing red eyes. Sound surreal? That's the point. This, complete with the crumbling walls of a classic old-style Budapest apartment building, is what gives Doboz its unique ruin club atmosphere.
Doboz defines itself as a ‘deluxe ruin bar', which means that it isn't as dilapidated and trashy as some other ruin bars in the district, but it isn't too fancy either. It balances somewhere right in between as a reliable, fuss-free party place – that's been around for 12 years now – where everyone is welcome to have a good time and dance until dawn in the middle of downtown. The entry system and the service are quick, the bathrooms are clean, and the staff are friendly.
Two dance floors and great tunes
Two dance floors stand on each side of the inner courtyard, so you can enjoy two separate parties at the same time. Popular Hungarian DJs spin disks here and all sorts of music plays from electronic to hip-hop, R'n'B, Latin music and the current hottest hits.
In summer, both dancefloors have a wall that opens to the courtyard, giving Doboz a real house party atmosphere – and a lovely breeze – while in winter, the inner courtyard is heated so that you don't have to bid farewell to your new friend, King Kong's, glowing red eyes and the open skies.
A girls' night out or a big birthday bash, to Doboz it is!
Every Friday is girls' night at Doboz, which means that entry is free for ladies all night, and they also get to enjoy unlimited champagne between midnight and 1 am, ensuring a fun time. Thought it isn't only girls who get special treatment at Doboz. If you celebrate your birthday here, and bring at least five friends along, you get a free bottle of champagne as a small birthday present. And if you just simply want to come here to party, but book a table in advance which is completely free, you get a free drink when you buy your first round of drinks for your group.
Speaking of drinks, there are altogether three bars, where quality bottles line the shelves, and you can find everything you need for a great night out whether you're after cocktails and long drinks or something heavier. The recycled glasses are free to use, so you don't have to bother with returning them either.
Doboz is open between 7 pm and 6 am every Friday and Saturday, so you can really dance until dawn here. Entry is free for everyone until 11 pm, and tickets can be purchased online or on the spot.
