Save the date: the Chain Bridge, Budapest's iconic landmark, is about to reopen for pedestrians

The Chain Bridge makes a comeback after being closed for renovation for two years. From 4 August, you can walk through Budapest's historical landmark once again.

The Chain Bridge is Budapest's most iconic bridge, dating back to 1849. In 2021, a long-due renovation started; 23,000 square metres of its surface got painted, the massive stone lions were removed for restoration, and no traffic was allowed on the crossway. The work is now complete. And after buses, taxis, and cyclists were allowed back on last December, the bridge will reopen for pedestrians on Friday, 4 August (midday).

The project got finished 1,5 months ahead of the deadline, meaning you can set off on a summer walk on the gorgeous bridge while admiring the Tunnel, the Danube, and the Gresham Palace. And here is a bonus for pedestrians and cyclists: the crossway remains car-free permanently.
