One of the city’s main cultural festivals, Budapest100, will take a new turn in 2022. Instead of residents around the whole city throwing open their doors to the general public for experts to outline the architectural value of various properties, this weekend-long event will focus purely on the Castle District. Visitors can explore the winding streets and discover the secret past around the Vienna Gate or Dísz tér on 14-15 May.

In recent years, a lot has happened around Buda Castle as part of the Hauszmann programme to restore previously neglected buildings to their former glory. Budapest100 is therefore more relevant than ever this year, honing in on less frequented places free of tourists.

Buda Castle is one of the most atmospheric places in town, with its hidden corners, cobblestoned streets and mix of historical eras.

In May, Budapest100 will highlight traces of past sieges, old streets and modern life within walls centuries old.
