The World Athletics Championships are the third-biggest sporting occasion in the world, one down from the Olympics and football’s World Cup. Coming to Budapest next year, the event has just been given its logo, the Statue of Lady Liberty, also one of the main symbols of Budapest, visible from around the city.
A new National Athletics Stadium is currently under construction past the millennial arts complex in south Pest, across from the northern tip of Csepel island. After the championships are over, the public will be able to use the running track on the upper level of the arena, backdropped by a panorama of the Danube.
Tickets for the championships will go on sale from this autumn, with various discounted offers.
The Hungarian Athletics Facebook page will provide further details.
