Dogmopolite offers practically everything related to dogs. It’s primarily a dog boarding house, but they also have day care and dog supervision services, they deal with dog cosmetics and training, and can provide medical care if need be. They cater to cats, too, even hedgehogs.
Dogmopolite can be found in several places in and around Budapest, on Rózsa utca in District VI, Mesterházi utca in District XI, Lajos utca in Óbuda, as well as the main facility in Szentendre, north of Budapest, where residents have a larger area to roam.
Everyone has their own space in the enclosed, covered, heated and cooled boarding house, but they can all play together outside, safely fenced-in, with toys and playground features.
For the Szentendre site, take the HÉV train to the Pannóniatelep stop, and it’s a few minutes’ walk. Here staff have been welcoming cats and dogs for five years, with an expert trainer and supervisory colleagues on hand.
Cats here behave in pretty much the same way as they would do at home,
but the dogs are sad at first, missing their owner and familiar surroundings, not
quite understanding what’s going on.
Pretty soon, of course, they get used to
it and love it, especially when they find new friends they can hang out with
all day. Day-care visitors are also easily entertained.
To keep the peace, cats are separated from the dogs, with their own houses and surroundings. They have separate outdoor and indoor exercise areas, and indoor rest spots are of different sizes for different dogs.
At Szentendre, they even have a trampoline, staff blow soap bubbles and when it's hot, pets can splash about.
