The prominent Himalayan pine tree on central square Deák Ferenc tér has become such a danger to the public in recent years that it now has to be removed, according to the expert gardeners at FŐKERT.

Urban greenery team FŐKERT has announced that the rare Himalayan pine on Deák Ferenc tér will have to be cut down because it’s become dangerous to passers-by. The condition of the tree has deteriorated so much in recent years that there is no other choice but to remove it.

They also comment that as the tree grows so quickly in urban conditions, its roots cannot follow the pace of the canopy. The tree, located in front of the Lutheran church, fell during a storm in 2013, and its roots have since weakened.

To prevent it from completely falling over, the experts at FŐKERT tied it to the maple tree alongside, but the torn roots couldn’t even support the canopy like this either.

The Himalayan tree continued to lean and it tightened the rope hard, so the trunk developed a huge crack. If this continues, the tree might fall onto the pavement, obviously not an ideal scenario. FŐKERT will therefore be removing it soon.
