A sustainable green space, a public forum and a performance venue will transform Városháza park from 2024 onwards. The open square in the heart of Budapest will be overhauled according to a design drawn up Budapest architects Lépték-Terv Tájépítész, selected from 18 other applicants. The project ends decades of speculation about this prime site, set alongside the Town Hall it’s named after.

The award-winning design by Lépték-Terv Tájépítész for the revamp of Városháza park will feature a landscaped green space suitable for summer heatwaves, a forum for public encounters and debate, and a showcase for culture.

Conceived by the same firm behind the overhaul of Blaha Lujza tér and Jókai tér, among many other urban projects, the renewal of Városháza park will be accompanied by the renovation of the façade of the Town Hall overlooking Károly körút, and of the nearby building that once housed the Merlin Theatre.
